● On February 20th, The No. 9-Seed Mullen girls’ basketball team hosted the No. 24th-Seed, Monarch High School in the first-round of the 6A Girls’ Basketball Championships. After a shaky first quarter and a half, Mullen put it into gear and pulled away from the Coyotes 49-39 to advance to the second round. Allison Schwertner had 11 points, and Makenzie Jones would lead the way with 16 pts.
In the round of sixteen, the Mustangs traveled to Grandview to take on the 8th-seeded Wolves. The Mustangs would get the better of the Wolves down the stretch in an extremely competitive game and beat Grandview 49-45.
By virtue of their ‘Sweet 16’ win, Mullen advances to the ‘Great 8’ and faces off against the tournament’s No. 1-seed, the Cherokee Trail Cougars. The game is on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 PM at the Denver Coliseum.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL
● On Wednesday, February 21, the 27th-seeded Mullen boys’ basketball team traveled to Valor Christian to take on the 6th-seeded Eagles in the opening round of the 6A Boys’ Basketball Championships. Mullen was up to the challenge, and in a back and forth first two quarters, the Eagle took a two point lead at the half. The Mustangs continued to keep it close through the 3rd-quarter, but faltered in the 4th scoring only 6-points and allowing the Eagle to pull away. The Mustangs fell to Valor 70-52. Anderson Brendle, Jordan Leslie and Ben Medina all notched double figures in the points column.
Mullen finished the year with an overall record of 12 - 12 and a conference record of 3 - 5.
