Kaitlin Zingler shot a 3-over-par 75 on Thursday to take first place and lead Mullen to a second-place showing as a team in Centennial League Match No. 2 at Broken Tee Golf Course in Englewood.
Signed with the University of Denver, Zingler birdied Nos. 3 and 4, made the turn in 1-over 37, then came home in 38.
She won by three strokes and was one of only two players to break 80.
Sammy Yates (10th, 86), Riley Sullivan (12th, 91) and Jane Gray (15th, 98) accounted for the Mullen scoring.
Cherry Creek won the team race at 343, seven better than the Mustangs.
The Mustangs will next play at CommonGround G.C. on Monday, April, 17, in the Cherry Creek Invitational, first tee shots at noon.

Track & Field
At Brother Bernard Kinneavy Field at De La Salle Stadium, the Mustangs amid a talented, 29-team field, overcame colder temperatures as well as a delayed start on Saturday to feature the 25th Mullen Invitational.
Teamwise, Mustangs boys were seventh with 51.5 points and girls were fourth with 74.5.
Highlights included junior Jacob Sushinsky winning the 1,600 meters in a blazing 4 minutes, 30.78 seconds; Julia Brown winning the 400; Mustangs girls taking first in the 1,600 relay; and Carmela Carbone winning the triple jump.

In Aurora, the Mustangs were fifth in the annual Smoky Hill Invitational on Saturday.
The host Buffaloes were first with 933 points. Mullen totaled 377.
Noah Mooney led Mullen, including with a runner-up showing in the 200-yard individual medley, 1 minute, 56.50 seconds.
Thomas Bradac, James Galligan, Ben Hoody, Henry Montgomery and Oliver Valdez also led Mullen’s charge.
The Mustangs will complete their Centennial League regular season on Thursday, April 20, at Arapahoe, 5 p.m.

Baseball
The Mustangs split for the week with a hard-earned 4-3 victory at Overland and a 14-0 defeat to Cherry Creek at home at Bill Swift Field, both in league.
In Aurora, Dom Gamueda had three hits and scored a run; on the mound, Jayden Salazar earned the victory and Colin Mackenzie the save.
In the five-inning loss to Cherry Creek, Mullen managed only six base runners.
Now 6-5 overall and 1-1 in league, the Mustangs have a three-game week in league – Tuesday, April 18, at Grandview in Aurora; 4:15 p.m., home on Thursday against Bear Creek (nonleague, 4:30) and Saturday versus Smoky Hill, 11 a.m.

In Aurora on Thursday, the Mustangs handled host Smoky Hill 2-1 in the Centennial League.
Mullen, top-ranked in 4A, improved to 6-0-1 overall, 2-0 in league.
Keelee Rakowski and Lizzy Marcoux scored for the Mustangs. Kate Vezzani and Kendall Smith contributed assists.
The Mustangs will be in Aurora again on Tuesday, April 18, when they will visit Cherokee Trail in the Centennial, 4:30 p.m.

Entering the final full week of the regular season, the Mustangs’ schedule continues to be busy as well as productive.
Mullen used its Varsity II to beat Smoky Hill 4-3 in the Centennial and its regulars handled Evergreen (nonleague) and Cherokee Trail by a combined 13-1.
The Mustangs’ first of four matches for the week will be on Monday, April 17, at home against Chatfield, 3:30 p.m.

Still evolving in their first season, the Mustangs dropped two matches in the Centennial.
Mullen lost to Cherokee Trail 3-1 and Eaglecrest 3-0.
Interestingly, the Mustangs’ lone win was by an epic 34-32, the third game against the Cougars.
Now 5-10 overall, 0-5 in league, Mullen will host Overland in league on Tuesday, April 18, 6:30 p.m.

Boys Lacrosse
In Arvada, the Mustangs slipped to 0-9 after a 16-7 loss to Ralston Valley in nonleague at the NAAC.
Nicky Bond had three goals and an assist for Mullen. Nick Gammon added a goal and an assist.
The Mustangs will begin 4A Foothills League play on Wednesday, April 19, at home against Golden, 7 p.m.
