Dale O'Blia and Isaak Chavez each place 5th at the National High School Coaches Association championships in Virginia Beach.

Add two All-Americans to Mullen’s wrestling program.

Dale O’Blia and Isaak Chavez each earned the elite status over the weekend in Virginia Beach at the National High School Coaches Association national rounds.

A three-time Colorado champion – the best in Mustangs history -- O’Blia placed fifth at 113 pounds for juniors and Chavez, who was runner-up in Colorado, also was fifth among freshmen at 138. Each bracket was by year in school.

Both Mustangs were 5-2 over the three days. Each bracket had a minimum of 64 competitors, and others contained 128 or 256.

“The kids wrestled great,” Mullen head coach John Howes said. “The competition was really good. For both of them to get fifth was fantastic.”

Neither Mustang was ranked nationally, but the brackets were full of highly rated competitors, Howes said.

Mullen sophomore Tony Herrera also competed and was 0-2 among sophomores at 106.
